To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen of EnglandÕs Golden Jubilee, Stevenson Brothers of Bethersden, England, designed and handcrafted this very special rocking horse. Partly inspired by two (2) of Queen VictoriaÕs rocking horses in their collection, this horse is based on a 1910 design originally manufactured by the legendary F.H. Ayres, purveyor of the finest rocking horses during the Victorian era and prized by children of all ages and British royalty alike. The horse is mounted on a Coach Spring suspension system that provides a subtle bounce and extends the riderÕs ÒstrideÓ to more closely resemble that of a real horsesÕ gait.Made from durable North American Tulip wood, this rocking horse is carved to show musculature and is constructed using the traditional Victorian method of mortise and tenon, ensuring a sturdier connection between joints than the common dowel and peg style that can weaken after years of riding. The traditional dapple grey horse is hand-painted with the finest attention to detail, includes a real horse hair mane and tail, is tacked in black, tanned English cowhide leather, and fitted with a removable side saddle pommel. The red suede saddlecloth is trimmed in gold and silver, reflecting Her MajestyÕs racing colors. The cloth also bears the EIIR cipher and crown, hand embroidered by Hand & Lock of London, the oldest heraldic embroiderers in the world. The Oak stand supporting the rocking horse is fitted with a hallmarked gold plaque with the makerÕs name, date and unique number.
